Covid-19: Here's Latest Rundown Of Long Island Cases By County

More than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed on Long Island, according to the latest data from the state.

According to the state Department of Health, There were 748 new cases in Suffolk, bringing the total to 67,860 since the pandemic began, while an additional 534 infections were reported in Nassau, as the total reached 65,632 as of Monday, Dec. 7.

The current seven-day average infection rate has now climbed past 4.15 percent for the first time since the spring.

Overall infection rates of those tested on Long Island rose in both Suffolk and Nassau from 4.2 to 4.3 percent since the pandemic began.

There were new COVID-19-related deaths in both counties, as the total hit 2,083 fatalities in Suffolk and 2,273 in Nassau.

Projections have shown that following the holiday season, which extends through Jan. 2 next year, if the numbers hold steady, Long Island could see the positive infection rate jump from 3.24 percent to 18.13 percent, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said during a recent COVID-19 briefing.

The latest breakdown of confirmed and new COVID-19 cases in Suffolk, according to the county Department of Health on Dec. 7:

  • Islip: 18,733;
  • Brookhaven: 17,307;
  • Babylon: 10,122;
  • Huntington: 8,097;
  • Smithtown: 4,548;
  • Southampton: 2,003;
  • Riverhead: 1,283;
  • Southold: 615;
  • East Hampton: 543;
  • Shelter Island: 18.

The most confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nassau County are being reported the county's Department of Health have been reported in:

  • Hempstead: 3,050;
  • Freeport: 2,462;
  • Elmont: 1,946;
  • Levittown: 1,925;
  • Uniondale: 1,869;
  • Hicksville: 1,773;
  • Valley Stream: 1,761;
  • East Meadow: 1,516;
  • Glen Cove: 1,512;
  • Franklin Square: 1,345;
  • Long Beach: 1,298;
  • Oceanside: 1,095;
  • Woodmere: 1,092;
  • Baldwin: 1,041;
  • Roosevelt: 955;
  • North Valley Stream: 862;
  • Plainview: 849.
  • New Cassel: 807.

On Sunday, Dec. 6, a total of 152,287 New Yorkers were tested for COVID-19, with 4.79 percent testing positive for the virus. There were 160 new COVID-19 patients hospitalized, bringing the total to 4,602; there are 872 ICU patients being treated for the virus, and 477 are intubated after testing positive.

In the state's COVID-19 "micro-cluster" hotspots, the infection rate is at 6.57 percent, and the state's positivity rate not including those focus zones is at 4.27 percent.

Statewide since the pandemic began, 705,827 positive COVID-19 cases have been confirmed out of 20.6 million who have been tested. There has been a total of 27,149 COVID-19 fatalities since the pandemic began.
